In a recent turn of events, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the fifth time. However, he has chosen to skip the summons once again. This action has drawn parallels with Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, who had also evaded ED summons in the past.

BJP’s Reaction
BJP leader Harish Khurana has criticized Kejriwal’s repeated absence from the ED summons. He pointed out that Soren, who was arrested by the ED in an alleged land scam case, had acted similarly. Khurana warned that if the ED takes a strong step against Kejriwal, he might resort to playing vendetta politics.
The ED’s summons to Kejriwal stems from his alleged involvement in the Delhi excise policy case, where the AAP government’s decisions have faced scrutiny. The policy, introduced to rejuvenate the city’s liquor business, came under fire for purported irregularities, prompting a CBI probe.

The Delhi Excise Policy Case
The ED has summoned Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The Delhi government had introduced an excise policy in 2021-22 to boost the city’s liquor business. However, the policy was scrapped after allegations of irregularities. The ED alleges that the AAP received kickbacks to finalize the excise policy, and a large part of this money was used in its Goa election campaign.
The repeated evasion of ED summons by Kejriwal has stirred up a political storm. With the BJP drawing parallels between Kejriwal and Soren’s actions, it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold. One thing is clear – no matter how much one evades, they will eventually have to face the ED.
